Team India's Bowling Coach Post Aspirants And Their Experience

After being done with the selection of the head coach, the BCCI will have another task to take a call on Ravi Shastri’s coaching staff. The interview for other coaching positions will start tomorrow. MSK Prasad and his selection panel will take a call on other coaches. Most of the members of the present staff are expected to keep their jobs.

Bharat Arun, the present bowling coach, is likely to be retained but the board will interview as many as nine contenders. Here’s a look at those nine coaches who will be interviewed by the selection panel –

Venkatesh Prasad:

The former India pacer held the bowling coach post when India won the inaugural edition of T20 World Cup in 20007. He later went on to coach Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL.

Prasad was one of the top applicants for the post of head coach in 2016, the year when Anil Kumble was appointed as the head coach. Prasad later served as the head of junior selection panel and was appointed as Kings XI Punjab’s bowling coach for IPL 2018.

Dodda Ganesh:

The former India pacer has had stints with domestic teams and was recently appointed as the head coach of Goa for the third time. He recently coached Madurai Panthers in Tamil Nadu Premier League. Dodda Ganesh played four Tests and 1 ODI in 1997.

A strong contender to retain his job, Bharat Arun had joined the team’s backroom staff in 2017 again. He has done a remarkable job and has created a pool of pacers across formats. The competition in Test cricket is such that even the senior pacers do not have a confirmed place in playing XI.

Darren Gough:

The former England pacer, recently, was one of the contenders for the England coach role. He might still be running for that job as well but Gough has also shown interest in coaching India. He played 58 Tests and 159 ODIs scalping 229 and 235 wickets, respectively.

Clint McKay:

One of the members of coaching staff f Melbourne Stars in Big Bash League, McKay’s names came as a surprise in the list. He retired from Australian cricket in 2016. Though he played county cricket until 2017. McKay played 59 ODIs and 1 Test match for Australia.

Subroto Banerjee:

The former right-arm pacer has a wealthy experience of coaching. He has coached Mumbai Indians in IPL. In domestic cricket, he has coached teams like Vidarbha, Bihar etc. He was a member of Vidarbha that won their maiden Ranji Trophy title in 2017/18 season.

Paras Mhambrey:

The former India pacer has been coaching India A and India U-19 team for long now. He was the bowling coach of India U-19 that won the Junior World Cup in 2018. Mhamrey has also coached Mumbai Indians in IPL, apart from coaching Vidarbha, Maharashtra, Bengal and Baroda in domestic cricket. He had taken over the job as India A coach in 2015.

Sunil Joshi:

The former India spinner was most recently the spin bowling consultant of Bangladesh. He later joined USA cricket team and can be helpful for Indian spinners, who do not have anyone to consult due to no spin bowling coach or consultant. Joshi can be a strong contender to join India’s coaching staff if BCCI also appoints a specialised spin bowling coach.

Amit Bhandari:

The former India pacer has a long experience of coaching Delhi in domestic cricket and was with the team when the played the final of 2015/16 Vijay Hazare Trophy. Bhandari played 2 ODIs, 95 first-class matches and 105 ist A matches in his career before retiring from the game.
