Team-wise Highest Individual Scores In ODIs; Over the years, we came across many marathon knocks played by a few great batsmen in the game of cricket. Though every knock holds a great memory, one knock, which flatters all the records to be the highest individual score from their respective countries always holds a special place in the heart of the fans.

Here, in this article, we have brought you the highest individual score of each country in the ODI format of the game.

Teamwise Highest Individual Scores In ODIs:

10. South Africa – Gary Kirsten:

For a very long time, almost 20 years, Gary Kirsten was the highest individual scorer in the World Cups. The South African had scored a staggering 188 runs in World Cup match against UAE in Rawalpindi. The southpaw mustered his runs in just 159 balls, that had 13 fours and four sixes.

That innings propelled the South African total to 321/2 in fifty overs. Along with him, Hansie Cronje scored a brisk 57 runs, followed by quick 41 by Daryll Cullinan.

That total was a big ask for the United Arab Emirates (UAE) side. As expected they could not offer any fight against the mighty Proteas, and could only score 152/8 in their allotted 50 overs. Allan Donald and Brian McMillan picked three wickets each to rattle the UAE side.

It was only in 2015 that Kirsten’s record was broken in 2015, by Kiwi batsman Martin Guptill when he scored 237 against West Indies.

9. England – Jason Roy:

The flamboyant opening batsman Jason Roy smashes the highest individual score for England in ODI format of the game. He registered a sublime 180 against their arch-rivals Australia at MCG in a bilateral series.

Roy surpassed Alex Hales’ previous mark of 171 before the opener was caught. His knock helped them to chase the highest successful run chase at Melbourne. Joe Root made 91 not out in a stand of 221 with Roy as England reached 308-5.

His innings of 180 included 16 fours and five big sixes. Incidentally, Roy appears twice in the top five of this elite list. His knock of 162 against Sri Lanka at The Oval remains the fourth-highest score ever in English cricket history in ODIs.

8. Australia – Shane Watson:

Shane Watson’s 185* against Bangladesh in the World Cup 2011 is still the highest by an Aussie batsman followed by Matthew Hayden’s 181* against New Zealand. His 185* against Bangladesh in the World Cup 2011 is still the highest by an Aussie batsman followed by Matthew Hayden’s 181* against New Zealand.

Watson also achieved the record of the maximum number of sixes in an innings by a batsman during those times, previously it was in the name of Marshall of West Indes(12 sixes).

Bangladesh made 229 and Shane Watson decided to just stand and smash it out of the ground. He hit 15 fours and 15 sixes in his innings. Watson scored 185 out of his team’s 232.

7. Sri Lanka – Sanath Jayasuriya:

Sri Lanka’s Sanath Jayasuriya equalled the then highest 189 against India in the Coca-cola cup final in 2000 in Sharjah. Sri Lanka scored 299/5 and dismissed India for just 54 to win the match by 245 runs. Jayasuriya hit 21 fours and 4 sixes in his innings.

The way Jayasuriya was batting, it looked like he would become the first double-centurion in ODIs. However, he was dismissed for 189 in the 49th over by Sourav Ganguly, thus breaking a 166-run partnership between Jayasuriya and Arnold which remains to be Sri Lanka’s highest partnership for the fifth wicket.

6. Zimbabwe – Charles Coventry:

Charles Coventry is a left-handed wicketkeeper-batsman who has played 2 Tests and 39 ODIs for Zimbabwe. He started as a highly promising batsman and progressed through all the age-group levels to play international cricket for Zimbabwe. Apart from being an aggressor with the bat, Coventry also has sound technique and solid temperament.

Charles Coventry on August 16, 2009, scored the highest individual ODI score at the Queen Sports Club Ground in Bulawayo, equalling Saeed Anwar’s record made in 1997. Coventry came out to bat when Zimbabwe were 5/1 in the second over.

He played an unbeaten 194 in just 156 balls, with an impressive strike rate of 124.35. Charles Coventry smashed 16 fours and 7 sixes throughout the innings and missed his 200 in the last over of the innings.

Unfortunately, he also holds the record of scoring the most number of runs in an innings on a losing side as Zimbabwe’s bowling line-up wasn’t able to give justice to Coventry’s magnificent.

5. Bangladesh – Liton Das:

The young Liton Das smashed a scintillating 176 against Zimbabwe to break his partner record of Tamim Iqbal in the home series against Zimbabwe. His innings laced with 16 fours and 8 sixes and looked well set in the middle to achieve the feat of double century in ODI format for Bangladesh.

However, rain ruined his chances to make things happen. His knock helped his side to post 322 runs on the board in 43 overs while Zimbabwe were bundled out for 218 runs to give 123-run victory for Bangladesh.

4. Pakistan – Fakhar Zaman:

Recently, on 20th July 2018, Fakhar Zaman became the first Pakistani batsman to score a double hundred in ODIs. He scored an unbeaten 210 in just 156 balls at an explosive strike rate of 134.61. Zaman hit 25 fours and 5 sixes and shattered a fairly weak bowling line-up of Zimbabwe.

He guided Pakistan in reaching a total of 399 for the loss of only one wicket. The left-handed opener was involved in a record-breaking opening partnership of 308 runs with Imam-ul-Haq and helped Pakistan in winning the game quite comfortably by a gigantic margin of 244 runs.

3. New Zealand – Martin Guptill:

One of the mainstays of New Zealand finds a place in the chart. Martin Guptill scored a blistering knock of 237 from 163 balls. As a result, he became the first Kiwi batsman to score a double hundred in ODI. The reason why this is one of the best innings in international cricket is that it came in an extremely crucial World Cup Quarter-Final in Wellington.

Guptill guided New Zealand to a mammoth total of 393/6 which assisted them in reaching the semi-finals. They defeated the Windies by a huge margin of 143 runs. With this knock, Guptill broke the record of scoring the highest individual score in World Cups.

2. West Indies – Chris Gayle:

On 24th February 2015, Christopher Henry Gayle became the first batsman to score a double hundred in World Cups by smashing 215 runs off just 147 balls against Zimbabwe. He hit 10 fours and 16 sixes and equalled Rohit Sharma’s record of hitting the most sixes in an innings.

West Indies lost their first wicket at 0 in the form of Dwayne Smith. But it was the ‘Gayle Storm’ accompanied by the Marlon Samuel’s 133*(156). Both batsmen made a 372-run partnership, which is the highest partnership in ODIs for any wicket.

Gayle became the fourth batsmen to score a double ton in ODIs. Gayle scored his ton exactly five years after Indian icon Sachin Tendulkar scored the first-ever double century versus South Africa in Gwalior, India.

1. India – Rohit Sharma:

Well, who else can take this place in this chart? The flamboyant Rohit Sharma is ruling this format of the game for a while now and he is continuing his class in the middle. During the fourth ODI of the five-match series against Sri Lanka at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, Rohit struck 264 off 173 balls. The knock was studded with 33 fours and nine sixes.

Rohit also broke compatriot Virender Sehwag’s earlier world record of 219 runs, which the former India opener had scored against West Indies in Indore, in 2011. Rohit, who opened the innings with Ajinkya Rahane, was dropped at the start of the innings when he was on 4.

Rohit, who is a cautious starter, held his nerves to reach his fifty off 72 balls and gradually picked up momentum as the innings progressed. He then raced to his century off 100 deliveries before he took the attack to the Sri Lankan bowlers.

Even though India lost wickets at the other end, Rohit continued to destroy the bowling attack and reached the epic milestone off 151 balls. The 30-year-old kept the onslaught going but was eventually dismissed on the final delivery of the Indian innings for 264 off 173 balls.

It was absolute carnage at the Eden Gardens as Rohit’s blistering knock powered India to 404/5. In reply, Sri Lanka were bundled out for 251 thus losing the match by 153 runs.
