There is a popular saying that wherever you go, you will find an Indian. During the colonial era, many Indian moved outside mainly in England, South Africa, and Windies to work as labourers and never returned.
Post Independence also, many Indians have gone abroad in pursuit of better opportunities and have settled over there. And now children of those people are representing different countries in different disciplines. Cricket being the most significant, people from Indian origins have taken this up and made a name for themselves.

On that context, let us take a look at ten India origin cricketers who went to play against India in international cricket:

Hashim Amla

Hashim Amla was born into a Muslim family which has its roots in Gujarat in India. He soon made his way into the national side, and his consistency has taken him to a different level.
Amla holds the record for the fastest 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000, 6000, and 7000 ODI runs and will be one of the important stakeholders for South Africa in the ongoing World Cup. So far, the right-handed batsman averages over 45 in both the Test and ODI format which makes him one of the sought after cricketers in South Africa.
Monty Panesar

Monty Panesar bursts onto the international scene as one of the prominent left-arm spinners. He brought an end to England’s spin woes and soon became a supporters favourite.
Although he made his England debut in 2006, his best game came against India in 2012 at Mumbai when he combined well with Graeme Swann to claim 19 wickets handing the host a defeat. Panesar has represented England in 50 Tests picking 167 wickets including 12 five-wicket hauls.
Nasser Hussain

Nasser Hussain was born in India before moving to England to pursue cricket. Making his debut in 1990, Hussain took over the captaincy baton from Alec Stewart in 1999 and was one of the most articulated English captains.
Hussain has played 96 Tests and 88 ODIs scoring 5764 and 2332 runs respectively including 15 centuries. He hung his boots in 2004 only to take up commentary and become a full-time sports broadcaster. Hussain is currently working in ICC World Cup 2019.
Shivnarine Chanderpaul

Shivnarine Chanderpaul is one of the greatest Windies batsmen of this generation. His ability to hold the tide from one end made him the best in the five-day format of the game.
A Guyanese cricketer of Indian descent, Chanderpaul defied all textbook rules and made his own. The left-handed batsman has 11867 Test runs to his name at an average of over 50. He has also led the Windies team during 2005-2006. Besides, Chanderpaul also has over 8000 runs in ODI cricket which shows his versatility.

Ish Sodhi

Born in Ludhiana, in the Indian state of Punjab, Ish Sodhi began his cricket in south Auckland, where his parents had migrated in his youth. He soon made rapid progress his aggressive approach and keen attitude.
So far, the 31-year-old leg-spinner has represented New Zealand in 17 Tests, 30 ODIs, and 33 T20Is claiming 41, 39, and 43 wickets respectively. Sodhi is also in the ICC World Cup 2019 squad and will want to spin his magic to help the Kiwis go further in the tournament.
Jeetan Patel

The son of Indian parents, but born and brought up in Wellington, offspinner Jeetan Patel was fast-tracked into the New Zealand side after John Bracewell, the national coach at the time, identified his promise.
Patel represented the Kiwis in all the formats playing 24 Tests, 43 ODIs, and 11 T20Is matches picking 65, 49, and 16 wickets respectively. He was also a handy batsman in the lower-order; however, his career was cut short with the rise of another Indian origin Ish Sodhi. Patel last played for New Zealand in 2017.
Ravi Bopara

Ravi Bopara was born into a Sikh family in London who were originally from India. He represented Essex before making his way to the England team in 2007. The all-rounder made his ODI debut against Australia and picked up the crucial wicket of Mike Hussey to help England cruise to victory.
Since then, he has been at the helm of English cricket for several years playing 13 Tests, 120 ODIs, and 38 T20Is over a span of eight years. Aged 34, Bopara now plays for Essex in the County Championship and has had a very average season this year.
Sunil Narine

Sunil Narine bursts onto the international scene as a mystery spinner. Although he has accomplished much in international cricket, Narine is a T20 star and every time he has come into the attack; he has looked like picking wickets.
The off-spinner was instrumental in leading Windies to the World T20 title in 2012 – the first time they claimed a World trophy since 1979. He has also been one of the key players for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL helping them clinch the title in 2012 and 2014. Although he is a globetrotter playing franchise leagues, Narine’s last match for Windies was in 2017.
Devendra Bishoo

Devendra Bishoo rose through the ranks to made his first-class debut in 2008 and courted immediate success. Bishoo made his debut in 2011, the year he got the ICC Emerging Cricketer of the Year award, and since then, there was no looking back.
The 33-year-old has represented Windies in 36 Tests, 42 ODIs, and seven T20Is picking 117, 38, and seven wickets respectively. Bishoo was in contention to be in the World Cup squad; however, failed to impress the selectors. He last played an international game earlier this year against England.
Ramnaresh Sarwan

Ramnaresh Sarwan, another Indian origin cricketer, to have played for Windies, was one of the there best batsmen post 2000. He averages over 40 in Tests and ODI formats which shows his authority in these formats.
Sarwan who last played for Windies in 2013 has scored 5842 and 5804 runs in Test and ODI format respectively. The 38-year-old has also represented Kings XI Punjab in the Indian Premier League.
