MS Dhoni fans received a big setback on Thursday when their hopes of seeing their beloved cricketer returning to action soon took yet another blow after the BCCI dropped the former India skipper from the list of centrally contracted players. MS Dhoni, who was awarded a Grade A contract last time, did not feature in the list of 27 players who received the contracts.

Apart from MS Dhoni, Dinesh Karthik, Ambati Rayudu and Khaleel Ahmed were also dropped from the list. MS Dhoni has not played a competitive game since the end of the World Cup. As soon as the tournament ended, he took a sabbatical from the game and is yet to return to action. He was expected to return to action during the home season but he is yet to play a game.

Chief selectors MSK Prasad then made it clear that the selection panel is unlikely to recall the former captain by saying that he and his colleagues are moving on from the veteran wicketkeeper. Since then, Rishabh Pant has been persisted with in ODIs and T20Is. Recently, India coach Ravi Shastri had said that Dhoni is likely to retire from ODIs but could come into contention for the T20 World Cup in Australia later this year if he does well in the IPL.

And with nothing clear on what the future holds for MS Dhoni, the fans now think that the legendary cricketer is set to retire after being dropped from central contracts list. As soon as the BCCI released the list, MS Dhoni fans flooded Twitter with tributes for him.

Here are some of the reactions:

Meanwhile, Test opener Mayank Agarwal earned his maiden central contract and is in Grade B. Other new names in the contracts are – Navdeep Saini, Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur, Shreyas Iyer and Washington Sundar. All of them earned Grade C contracts.
