Ross Taylor, New Zealand’s most capped player in T20Is, said the whole series has been disappointing. The fifth and final T20I of the series was Taylor’s 100th game in the shortest format. Taylor celebrated the milestone with a win but the hosts couldn’t salvage a sole victory.

Ross Taylor reflects on the series loss

Though, a scoreline of 5-0 wouldn’t necessarily justify the competitive spirits but apart from the first couple of games, the BlackCaps had genuine chances of snatching a win in the following three games. The likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Rohit Sharma, Shardul Thakur and KL Rahul responded well to the pressure situations. While, on the other hand, Kane Williamson was the only man who took the attack to the opposition.

“It was nice to  contribute and play 100 games but I think the whole series has been disappointing by the way we put ourselves in good positions and fail to capitalize on that. You cannot give this India team an inch and we gave them a lot more than that and they took advantage of that.” Taylor said.

The Kiwis gave away the game from the driving seat on more occasions than one. The script for the final game was quite similar. Chasing 164 to win, the hosts were well on course for a win but they lost their wheels in the chase.  Virat Kohli’s men bagged their maiden series win in New Zealand, in the shortest format in quite a style.

KL Rahul was adjudged the man of the series for his string of good scores but in Bumrah, India had a reliable death bowler. “The game is normally comfortable when the scenario is 66 off 60 balls. But when you got a World Class bowler like Bumrah, he is an X-factor for them. The Indian bowlers put us under pressure and we gave away wickets at different times.” Taylor added.
