Rohit Sharma’s love for Eden Gardens is well known but the India star took it to another level on the same day five years ago when he decimated Sri Lanka. On 13 November 2019, Rohit Sharma became the first and till date only cricketer to score more than one double hundred in ODIs as he slammed a historic 264. It is still the highest individual score in ODIs.
The breathtaking knock was studded with 33 boundaries and 9 sixes. Rohit started slow but accelerated in his inimitable style after getting to the 100. Despite taking 100 balls to get to his hundred, he went on to score 264 from just 173 balls as he scored the last 164 runs in just 73 balls. Rohit was batting on just four when he was dropped by Thisara Perera and made Sri Lanka pay a hefty price for it.

Rohit Sharma was also involved in the run out of Virat Kohli. After having stitched a 201-run stand for the 3rd wicket, Kohli was run out on 66 after a mix-up with Rohit in the middle. Kohli had famously stared at Rohit after the run-out but his anger turned into delight as the latter went on to create history. India, meanwhile, went on to score a mammoth 404 in 50 overs and then bowled out Sri Lanka for 251, 13 less than Rohit Sharma’s individual score.
