The Ranji Trophy final of 2019-20 was an enticing fixture, between Saurashtra and Bengal. In the end, Saurashtra, the winning team, triumphed courtesy of their lead in the first innings, which shows how keenly contested it was.

After winning the toss, under Jaydev Unadkat’s leadership Saurashtra racked up a total of 425 runs in their first innings.

In reply, the Bengal side could only muster up 381 runs and thus Saurashtra picked up their first title in 73 years, after having fallen just short, on numerous occasions.

In the end, a lot of Saurashtra players deserve credit for their remarkable show.

However, some of them have impressed so much, that they could very well stake a claim in the national team, going forward.

Here are the three-star players from Saurashtra who could turn out for India soon:

One of the key players in Saurashtra’s title-winning team was left-handed all-rounder Dharmendrasinh Jadeja. On the back of his impressive domestic performances, Jadeja could very well turn out for India soon.

He was a handy contributor during Saurashtra’s 2019-20 Ranji Trophy campaign, having performed well with both the bat and ball. The 29-year-old has played 60 First-class matches so far in his career and has racked up 1311 runs at an average of 18.72. Moreover, he has further amassed 237 wickets as well.

If the Indian selectors look down to the domestic circuit, Jadeja will be a standout player, and being a left-handed all-rounder will further help his cause in the national team.

2) Sheldon Jackson

Sheldon Jackson, wicketkeeper of the Saurashtra team was another vital player in their title run. Not only did Sheldon contribute runs to the cause, with his bat, but his lighting quick reflexes behind the wickets were also crucial.

The 33-year-old scored 809 runs in 18 innings of the 10 matches he played this season, with an impressive average of 50.58. Sheldon’s most memorable knock came in against Madhya Pradesh in Indore, having scored a mammoth 183 run inning.

Having scored three centuries, the right-handed batsman could turn out for India soon, if given an opportunity further.

The skipper of the Saurashtra side, Jaydev Unadkat deserves a national call-up on the back of his performances in Ranji Trophy this year. He finished the tournament as the leading wicket-taker and helped the team with the ball as well as his leadership skills.

In the 10 matches played this term, Unadkat amassed 67 wickets at an average of 13.24. Having made his debut in 2013, the left-arm pacer has played seven ODI matches, having taken eight wickets.

Moreover, he has eight T20I caps, and 14 scalps to show for it.

The 28-year-old got injured and was dropped from the national team, but after leading Saurashtra to their first title in 73 years, Unadkat has a strong claim to play for India again.
