Former Sri Lanka’s opening batsman Tillakaratne Dilshan has hinted at a return to International Cricket. Dilshan last played in the Sri Lankan colours (in ODIs) on 28 August 2016. The combative right-hander had called it time on his International career two years ago. However, the reason for retirement was not revealed at that time. Thus, it had taken everyone by shock.
Meanwhile, Dilshan wants to make a comeback given the recent struggle of the Sri Lankan side. Sri Lanka was knocked out of the ongoing Asia Cup after they lost both their matches against Bangladesh and Afghanistan. Furthermore, the way they lost by huge margins of 137 and 91 runs was ignominious.

Dilshan wants to return.
In fact, Sri Lanka’s performance in the last one year has been poor. They have failed to get any kind of impetus and have been on the losing side more often than not. Subsequently, they haven’t won an ODI series in the recent past.
On the other hand, the growing age is a not a friend for Dilshan. He would be turning 42 years in the next month. Furthermore, it is not going to be easy for him to hit the ground running on his return as he would have lacked the match practice.

However, Dilshan wants to help Sri Lanka get out of troubled waters. Thus, Dilshan wants to get back for the next year World Cup
“Former Sri Lankan Cricketer TM Dilshan (42) has hinted he could return to International Cricket since the national team is struggling. He told Lak FM radio that he wanted to play until 2019 World-cup but due to certain issues he had to retire earlier,” Azzam Ameen who is a reporter cum producer at the BBC, tweeted this tweet.
Meanwhile, Dilshan had scored 10,290 runs in his ODI career. He had also scalped 106 wickets. Moreover, he was a live wire on the field. He was also the leading run-getter in the 2011 World Cup as he had scored 500 runs.
Therefore, if Dilshan can get himself fit and firing, he would be a great addition for the Sri Lankan side.
