As Australia gear up to lock horns against India in the four-match Test series, their skipper Tim Paine has revealed why he was involved in a series of banters with Rishabh Pant during the last Test series between the two teams.

Rishabh Pant and Tim Paine tried their best to get under the skin of each other during the last Border-Gavaskar series. It was the series where the famous ‘Babysitter’ sledge took place. Tim Paine had given Rishabh Pant an offer to babysit his kids while the latter had called the Australia captain a temporary captain.

The fans are definitely looking forward to some more banter between the two in the upcoming series. And ahead of the series, Tim Paine has revealed that his banter with Pant last time around was part of a strategy. The Australian captain felt that he could distract Pant into playing a loose shot.

”I think I just try and do what I think is the best at the time. The stuff that keeps getting replayed was just a friendly chat. My reading at that time was that he was a player we could distract into playing a loose shot. He is a sort of a one, happy relaxed guy. So yeah, that is the angle I took with him. But it won’t be the same with everyone. I try and read the situation I am in at the time and try and adapt to that,” Tim Paine said.

Well, Tim Paine definitely failed to unsettle Pant as the latter had a fine series in Australia. He finished the series as the second highest run-scorer, scoring an impressive 350 runs including a stunning unbeaten knock of 159 in the Sydney Test.
