Tim Southee Is New Zealand's Best Option In A Super Over, Says Colin Munro

New Zealand opener Colin Munro threw his weight behind a gutted Tim Southee. The Kiwi pacer, for the second time in as many games, failed to defend a 10-plus total in the Super Over. The hosts were cruising home at one point at Wellington. Munro made up for the loss of time and hit a fifty.

The hard-hitter found the ropes on nine occasions, with three of them going for maximums. Munro’s 47-ball 64 got the Kiwis to 96 at the loss of two wickets in the 12th over. At this very stage, India had lost their top six wickets. Some fine bowling and sharp calls helped the visitors make a comeback in the game. New Zealand lost four wickets in the last over as the game went to a Super Over.
Colin Munro comes in support of distraught Tim Southee
Tim Southee, who lead the side in the absence of an injured Kane Williamson, was left in agony after the defeat. However, Munro said the pacer is the best option they have got. “Southee is the best option to bowl in the Super Over. Tim is an experienced bowler, he knows what he is doing, he actually wants the all in hands. It is not an easy role to come and bowl especially when we ended with 12 or 13 middle-over range in the Super Over. He was bowling to probably two of the best T20 batters in the world.” he said.

Though the scoreline suggests an one sided contest, Munro refuses to believe so. He feels both the sides have been neck-to-neck on most occasions apart from the second game at Eden Park. “It’s not like we’re being blown off the park. 202 in the first game and they chased it down. The only game where we probably didn’t step up to our standards was the second one at Eden Park, where we fell 15-20 runs short. I think we’ve been playing some good cricket. India have just been 1 or 2 per cent better than us,” the opener added.
