TNPL 2018: Tuti Patriots Provide Knockout Blow to Chepauk Super Gillies

Chepauk Super Gillies who are the defending champions of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) lost their fifth consecutive game. With this, they are now out of the tournament in the third season while losing out against Tuti Patriots.

In a battle between two former champions, the Tuti Patriots recuperate the Super Gillies at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

After this loss against Patriots, Chepauk has lost all their five matches. They will earn only four points, even if they manage to win the remaining two games.

However, there are already four teams in the tournament with more than four points.

A briefing of the match:

While deciding to bat first, Super Gillies got a solid foundation for the first time in this season.

The top-order batsmen S Karthik (43), Ganga Sridhar Raju (23) and skipper KH Gopinath (40*) played well to put their side in command. Harish Kumar played an excellent cameo of 27 off 12 balls to add miseries of Patriots.

The bowlers of Patriots bowled two excellent death overs as they conceded just nine runs in last two overs of the innings. Gillies put a total of 167 for the loss of six wickets.

In a chase of 168, Tuti Patriots went off to a flier. S Dinesh scored quickfire of 25 off 13 balls.

Once again the skipper of Patriots led his team from the front as he shared a partnership with S Anand for 49 runs.

Kaushik Gandhi and S Anand put 49 runs partnership for the second wicket in the match. Kaushik fell prey of Harish Kumar on 45.

On the other hand, Anand stayed at the crease till the end. He shared two pivotal partnerships with S Abhishek and R Sathish.

Abhishek scored 17 runs off just eight balls whereas Sathish got 30 runs off only 12 balls. They drove Tuti Patriots towards a victory by seven wickets.
