Chepauk Super Gillies are a T20 team and play in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL). They are owned by Metronation Chennai Television. They represent the city of Chennai in the tournament. Baba Aparajith is their current captain.
Chepauk Super Gillies - Season-wise performance:
Chepauk Super Gillies started their journey in TNPL in a strong manner. In the inaugural season played in 2016, they finished at the top of the points table after winning 5 of their 7 league games. They won the semifinal as well before losing to Tuti Patriots in the final.
After the runners-up finish in 2016, Chepauk Super Gillies went on to win the title in 2017 with a win over defending champions Tuti Patriots in the final. They finished the league stage at the second spot in the points table before beating Lyca Kovai Kings in the second qualifier to storm into the final.
Chepauk Super Gillies endured a disastrous campaign in TNPL 2018. They finished at the bottom of the points table with just 1 win from 7 games in the league stage.
Chepauk Super Gillies bounced back in style in 2019 after the bottom place finish in the last season. They went on to win the title and became the first team in the TNPL to win the competition twice. With 5 wins from 7 games, they finished the league stage at the second spot. They beat Dindigul Dragons in the first qualifier as well as final to win the competition.
In 2021, Chepauk Super Gillies became the first team to defend the TNPL title and also the first team to win the competition thrice. They finished the league stage at the second spot in the points table before losing the first qualifier against Trichy Grand Cholas.
They booked their place in the final with a win over Dindigul Dragons in the second qualifier. In the final, the Super Gillies beat Grand Cholas by 8 runs to win the title.
In 2022, Chepauk Super Gillies and Lyca Kovai Kings were declared joint winners after the final was washed out. As a result, the Super Gillies won their third title in a row in addition to becoming the first team to win the TNPL four times.
For just the second time, Chepauk Super Gillies could not qualify for the playoffs as they finished their campaign in TNPL 2023 at the fifth spot in the points table. The 4-time champions managed only 3 wins from 7 games.
Chepauk Super Gillies qualified for the playoffs in TNPL 2024 but could not make it to the final. They finished the league stage at the third spot with 4 wins from 7 games. Their campaign ended with a defeat against eventual winners Dindigul Dragons in the Eliminator.
