One of the many things that fans and pundits look forward to every season of the IPL is how the uncapped Indian players perform.
And, this season, we have seen a plethora of such cricketers- some familiar, some new- enthrall us with their prodigious talent and awe-inspiring temperament.
On that note, here’s a look at top-5 uncapped Indian players with most runs in IPL 2020:
Rahul Tewatia- 255
Whenever the history of IPL 2020 will be written, it will surely not be completed without the mention of Rahul Tewatia.
The spin-bowling all-rounder lit up the IPL with his situations defying and character-defining performances. His 53 against Kings XI Punjab, where he stroked 6 sixes in the last 8 deliveries he faced, after having managed 8 off his first 19, helped RR pull-off the highest run-chase in the history of the IPL.
Tewatia followed it up with yet another match-winning knock against SunRisers Hyderabad later in the tournament, proving that his heist against KXIP was not just a flash in the pan. The all-rounder was equally brilliant with the ball as he offered brilliant control during the middle-overs.
Overall, the spin-bowling all-rounder finished with 255 runs in 11 innings at an average of 42.5 and a strike-rate of 139.34 with one half-century.
Nitish Rana- 352
Nitish Rana’s IPL 2020 campaign is an apt reflection of how his side Kolkata Knight Riders performed this season- inconsistent.
Rana blew hot and cold throughout the season with a single-digit score being followed by a 50+ total.
And, his last 5 IPL 2020 innings perfectly epitomizes my point. Rana’s last 5 innings read: 0, 87, 0, 81, 0
Overall, the southpaw managed 352 runs in 14 innings at an average of 25.14 and a strike-rate of 138.58 with three 50+ scores.
SuryaKumar Yadav- 461
Yadav has been absolutely sensational in all formats of the game in domestic cricket in the past 2-3 years and he has emulated those exploits in the ongoing IPL edition as well.
The charismatic Mumbai batsman has enthralled fans as well as pundits with his gobsmacking strokeplay backed by astounding consistency this season.
Yadav once again displayed his imperious touch in the 1st Qualifier against Delhi Capitals as he racked up yet another 50+ score besides becoming the 1st uncapped batsman to breach the 2000-run mark.
Overall, Suryakumar Yadav has thus far scored 461 runs in 14 innings at an average of 41.91 and a strike-rate of 148.23 with the help of 4 50+ scores.
Devdutt Padikkal- 473
In a side that has been perennially dependent on the duo of Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers, young Padikkal emerged as yet another bedrock of the batting-unit, even as his more celebrated opening partners struggled.
Padikkal announced his arrival with a stylish half-century against SunRisers Hyderabad and since then he has gone from strength to strength to not only become the first batsman to rack up three 50+ scores in his first four IPL innings but also the leading run-scorer by an uncapped Indian in his debut season.
Overall, Padikkal has thus far scored 473 runs in 15 innings at an average of 31.53 and a strike-rate of 124.80 with 5 50+ scores.
Ishan Kishan- 483
Whether it was his whirlwind 99 against RCB which nearly led his team to a miraculous victory or his counterattacking 30-ball 55* against the Delhi Capitals that propelled MI to a match-winning total of 5-200 in the 1st Qualifier, Ishan Kishan has proved himself in almost every single opportunity that he has got this season.
Apart from his obvious flamboyance, what has been heartening to see in Ishan’s batting this season is the manner in which he has paced his innings in crunch situations.
Kishan has thus far racked up 483 runs in just 12 innings at an average of 53.67 and a blistering strike-rate of 144.18 with four 50+ scores.
