Travis Head, the middle-order batsman, is confident for a berth in the Australia team for the upcoming ICC World Cup in England and Wales. However, the southpaw, since making his debut in 2016, has played only 42 ODIs for the Aussies.

While Head has made rapid progress in the Test format, he has struggled to cement his spot in the ODIs. Head was part of the bilateral series against South Africa before the selectors snubbed for the India series. Meanwhile, Travis Head made amends in the Test series against Sri Lanka putting up good scores with the bat. While he has shown his abilities as a good Test batsman, he is short of time to seal a berth for the pinnacle tournament.

Head was in delightful form last year against England during their 5-0 sweep against England. However, he lost his touch during the series against South Africa scoring 15 runs in three games. But with confidence by his side, Head is upbeat to be on the plane to England. Travis Head noted he is improving daily and will continue doing that.

There’s still a divide to whether I can potentially be in that (World Cup) team. For me, there’s no resting or stepping away from my main focus which is wanting to play all three formats for Australia,” Head told Cricbuzz.

At the minute, the one-day team is presently playing a good brand of cricket but I’m close to that. I know what I’m improving in my game and what I’m getting better at, so I will continue to do that. If it comes to the World Cup, and I find myself in the one-day team, I know I can contribute,” he added.

Playing the World Cup is not the end

Travis Head, however, intimated that playing the showpiece event is not the end of the world. With Australia trying to reclaim their glory days in world cricket, Head is looking forward to being a constant in all formats. Meanwhile, he admitted that he is thinking about the opening encounter in the Sheffield Shield.

I have not spoken to them (selectors) but I know what I have to do. There’s definitely no red-ball, white-ball focus for me. It’s about playing all three formats,” he said. “I am not worried too much about England. I’m worried about the Shield games, and I’m worried about the first game. Very cliched but the Ashes is a long way away,” he concluded.

Australia will start their campaign against India with a T20I game from February 24. They will play three T20Is followed by a five-match ODI series.
