Faf Du Plessis’s decision to bat first after winning the toss seemed to have backfired as India’s new ball bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar ran through the South African top order picking up three early wickets of Dean Elgar, Aiden Markram, and Hashim Amla. Kumar struck in the very first over of the match as he dismissed Elgar. Elgar had a rare failure as he was South Africa’s highest scorer in 2017.

Bhuvaneshwar, who is playing his first Test in South Africa, impressed in the very first session of the match as he picked up the wickets of Markram and Amla as well. Markram has had an impressive start to his Test career, but his first match against a high-end team failed. Bhuvneshwar picked up Markram for just five runs. He also picked up the wicket of South Africa’s mainstays at the top of the order Hashim Amla who was dismissed on three.

This is how Twitter reacted to Bhuvneshwar’s opening spell.
