South Africa rode on Kagiso Rabada and Tabraiz Shamsi’s four-wicket hauls to bundled out Sri Lanka for a mere 193 in the first ODI at Dambulla on July 29 (Sunday).

The batsmen struggled in the morning after Sri Lanka skipper Angelo Matthews opted to bat first. Kagiso Rabada drew the first blood on the third ball of the game as he removed Niroshan Dickewella.

Since then, Rabada bulldozed the Sri Lanka’s innings sending half of their batters back to the hut. Rabada and Lungi Ngidi was shedding fire from both the ends as Sri Lankan batsmen found them hard to tackle.

However, it was Kusal Mendis, who started to steady the ship holding things tight from one end.

He got a crucial support from veteran Thisara Perera, who has time and again rescued Sri Lanka’s innings. The duo added 92 runs for the sixth wicket as Sri Lanka escaped another humiliation.

Perera played a quickfire knock scoring 49 runs off just 30 balls before departing. Perera, who was playing a responsible knock picked up since then to take the attack to the opposition. He partnered the lower-order batsmen to take his team close the 200-run mark.

Kusal Perera slammed 89 runs including 11 fours and one six to take the team’s total to 193 runs. Rabada and Shamsi returned with four wickets each while Ngidi returned with one.

Meanwhile, it is likely to be an easy run chase against hosts Sri Lanka for South Africa, who have a star-studded batting unit.
