A few days ago, Heinrich Klaasen was just a forced replacement in the South African team.

The 26-year old was selected in the side to replace injured Quinton de Kock against India. However, it took him only two games to mark his arrival.

After failing to deliver in the first ODI, Klaasen got the responsibility of protecting South Africa’s spotless Pink ODI record. The Proteas were in danger of losing the first-ever ODI in the pink jersey, but Klaasen produced a masterclass to fire his team to a thrilling win. He played an unbeaten knock 0f 43 to help his side chase down 202 with 15 balls remaining in the rain-curtailed tie. Klaasen took just 27 balls to play the match-winning score.

India had scored 289 for seven in the allotted 50 overs. However, the target was reduced to 202 in 28 overs due to rain and inclement weather. The game was in India’s clutches when Hardik Pandya dismissed AB de Villiers. At that stage, South Africa still needed 100 off 67 balls. With the big names already back in the hut, the game slightly tilted in India’s favour.

However, Klaasen stayed till the end to ensure his team pull off a thriller.

His heroics has made him a household name in the cricketing fraternity. But amidst all this, the fans have come up with an interesting comparison. Klaasen has a striking resemblance to New Zealand opener Martin Guptill and the fans did not take long to go overboard with the comparisons.
