Twitter Goes Wild As David Warner Scores Maiden T20I Ton On His Birthday

The summer was a mixed one for Australia star David Warner. He returned to action straight into the World Cup and hit the ground running. The opening batsman finished the tournament as Australia’s highest run-scorer and second overall to help his team progress to the semifinal. He scored 647 runs with the help of three centuries and as many half-centuries.
However, he endured a torrid time in the Ashes that took place soon after the World Cup. David Warner looked all at sea as England bowlers toyed with him in swinging conditions. Despite being one of the most experienced cricketers in the series, David Warner had a torrid outing.
In five Tests, he scored just 95 runs, the lowest tally for an opener to bat 10 times in a series, with 61 of them coming in a single innings at Headingley. England’s veteran pacer Stuart Broad was his nemesis, removing him seven times with one of the most one-sided batsmen-bowler contests witnessed in Test cricket.

Unsurprisingly, the critics came out all guns blazing and asked for David Warner’s axing from the team. Now only time will tell whether he manages to retain his place or not for next month’s Test series against Australia. But for the time being, the southpaw has shut down his critics with a sensational hundred in the ongoing first T20I against Sri Lanka.
David Warner, who is celebrating his 33rd birthday today, could not have put up a better performance as he scored his first T20I hundred. Interestingly, this is the first game for Warner after he returned to international cricket following the one-year ban. He reached his ton on the very final ball of the innings and remained unbeaten on exactly 100 off 56 balls. Warner hit 10 fours and 4 sixes as Australia piled up a mammoth total of 233 for 2.
Meanwhile, the cricketing world was quick to acknowledge Warner’s ton as the fans and others took to Twitter to praise him.
Here are some of the reactions:
David Warner makes a triumphant return to international cricket on Australian soil. On his 33rd birthday, he makes his first T20 international ton off the final ball of the innings. Australia finish 2-233, their highest T20I total on home soil.

First T20 in Australian colours after two years and he got off the mark in the column of T20I hundreds. That is some birthday goals right there.
