It was raining sixes in Auckland as New Zealand and England batsmen took the bowlers to the cleaners in the fifth T20I. Despite the game being reduced to 11-over per side due to rain, there was absolutely no dearth of entertainment in the match. In the end, England beat New Zealand through super over as both the teams finished on a eye-popping 146 in just 11 overs. With the win, the tourists sealed the series 3-2.
In the one-over decided, the visitors piled up 17 with Eoin Morgan and Jonny Bairstow hitting a six each. In reply, New Zealand finished on just 8.
When New Zealand ended their innings on 146 for 5 in just 11 overs, it looked like they would register a comfortable win. Their chances of winning the game easily further brightened up when Tom Banton and in-form James Vince departed for 7 and 1 respectively. Skipper Eoin Morgan started well with the bat but could not last long and departed after scoring 17 from 7.

With England reeling at 39 for 3 after three overs, it looked all over for the visitors. However, the hosts were in for a big surprise as Jonny Bairstow and Sam Curran started firing on all cylinders. In the fifth over, Curran slammed Scott Kuggeleijn for two fours and two sixes to turn the game on its head. In the following over, Bairstow hit Ish Sodhi for three consecutive sixes as England raced away to 90 for 3 after six overs.

Bairstow then welcomed Jimmy Neesham with a six but the latter had the last laugh as the allrounder sent back the England opener on the final ball of the over. Six balls later, Mitchell Santner had Curran stumped to once again put the Black Caps on top. But the game was not done yet as Chris Jordan played a fine cameo to make sure England do not lose the game.
With England needing 16 from the final over, Neesham started well by conceding just three off the first two balls before dismissing Tom Curran. However, Jordan hit scored 12 from the next three to tie the game. He hit a four followed by two and a six to push the game to a super over.

New Zealand innings:
Earlier in the game, a 19-ball fifty from Martin Guptill had propelled New Zealand to a mammoth 146 in 11 overs. Asked to bat first, New Zealand openers Guptill and Colin Munro came out all guns blazing. The two added 83 runs in just five overs before Adil Rashid dismissed Guptill for exactly 50.

Munro, on the other hand, departed after blasting 46 from just 21. Towards the end of the innings, Tim Seifert blasted 39 from only 16 balls with the help of five sixes to help his side finish strongly.

The first-ever five-match bilateral T20I series between two major cricketing sides have gone to a Superover!#NZvsENG #NZvEng

New Zealand scored at 13.3/over. England only need to go at 11.4/over from here to win it. Great skills? Wild hitting? Irrelevance of bowlers? Need a minimum boundary size? Or are batsmen so good that it doesn't matter? So many questions en route to a T20 game

The England-Black Caps finish is off tap, again. What a ridiculous dynamic between two highly entertaining white ball teams. #NZvENG

What a lot of people probably haven't realised is this isn't the first time this year that New Zealand and England have tied a cricket match and gone to a Super Over. #NZvENG

This is why I say Morgan is super duper cool under pressure. England need him just for his captaincy in the T20 WC #NZvENG

How underrated is captaincy. This same @BLACKCAPS bowling looks much more lethal when @Kane_s_w is on the field. #NZvENG

Everytime Kuggeijin is on screen, I don't think it's cricket. Still waiting for a statement from him or @BLACKCAPS #NZvENG
