He was trolled, ridiculed, heavily scrutinized, and written off by his detractors following four consecutive failures in the T20I series but KL Rahul (108 off 114 balls) in the ongoing ODI series has once again proved that while form may be temporary but class is always permanent.

The stylish Indian batsman had hit back at his critics with a match-winning unbeaten 43-ball 62 in the first ODI and he went one step ahead in the ongoing game by smashing his 5th One-day International hundred.

It was yet another classy innings by KL Rahul laced with his trademark straight-drives, cover-drives and cut shots among many others.

Rahul had come to the crease after India has lost both of its openers within the space of the first ten overs. The Karnataka batsman got himself in and stitched a brilliant 121-run-stand with skipper Virat Kohli for the third wicket.

Virat once again failed to convert a 50+ score into a hundred but that wasn’t the case with Rahul, who brought up his 2nd ton on home soil with a single on the first ball of the 44th over.

KL Rahul has now scored the last two ODI hundreds by an Indian. The last ODI ton by an Indian came against New Zealand in Mount Manganui in early 2020.

KL Rahul has been in brilliant form in ODI cricket since August 2019. During the said period, the stylish batsman has smashed 798 in 14 innings at an average of 66.50 and a strike-rate of 102.04 with six fifties and three hundreds.

And, as always, the Indian wicketkeeper-batsman rolled out his ‘no noise’ gesture to celebrate his hundred. Rahul celebrated his 100 with an imperious on-drive before he eventually holed out in the deep while trying to pull Tom Curran.
