India spin spearhead Ravichandran Ashwin is being slammed by the fans for his slow running that led to his run-out on day three of the ongoing third Test against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). India were in a desperate need of a good partnership when Ravichandran Ashwin came out to bat and joined Ravindra Jadeja in the middle.
The off-spinner came out to bat after India lost two settled batsmen in Rishabh Pant and Cheteshwar Pujara. The day started on a poor note for the tourists as their skipper Ajinkya Rahane (22) and Hanuma Vihari (4) returned to the pavilion quickly. Pujara and Pant then steadied the ship and played some fine shots to keep the scoreboard ticking.
Both the batsmen were looking comfortable before the Australian pacers sent them back in quick succession while bowling with the new ball. In fact, India could not add a single run between the dismissals of Pant and Pujara as they were reduced to 195 for 6 from 195 for 4. This is when Ravichandran Ashwin came out to bat.

The Indian team and the fans must have expected a substantial contribution with the bat from Ravichandran Ashwin who has 4 centuries and 11 fifties to his name in Tests. The spinner started on a promising note too, hitting two quick boundaries before poor running between the wickets led to his dismissal for 10.
In the 93rd over bowled by Cameron Green, Jadeja drove the ball towards mid-off and ran for the single. Ravichandran Ashwin, who is one of the slowest runners in the Indian team, didn’t give his full effort for the run and was caught short when Pat Cummins quickly collected the ball and fired a throw at the keeper’s end where Marnus Labuschagne grabbed the ball and took off the bails.
Meanwhile, the fans were furious with Ashwin’s running between the wickets and slammed him for the same.
Here are some of the reactions:

R. Ashwin is probably the most unfit sportsperson to have played professional sport for 10 odd years.

Ashwin was waiting for Jadeja to come and whisper in his ear to start running.

Smith: Jadeja is very good with runouts.
Ashwin and Bumrah: Don't tell us.

They can neither bat nor run. In this era, having 1 dimensional trait is real shame and an indictment of crap coaching set up.

Run-outs are a gift to the opposition.
