Playing his maiden Test match, Kiwi openerr Devon Conway scored a double ton and in the process, powered New Zealand to 378 in the first innings at Lord’s. This is the first of the two Tests between England and New Zealand. Apart from Devon Conway, no other batsmen found the going easy on a tough first-day wicket at Lord’s. It was pretty much a single-handed effort from the left-hander who is a T20 globetrotter. He was unfortunately dismissed by a runout
Apart from Devon Conway, Henry Nicholls scored a crucial 61 for the Kiwi side. The duo stitched a 174 run stand for the fourth wicket. Kane Williamson (13) and Ross Taylor (14) barely managed to get into double figures while the lower-middle order were dismissed for single-digit scores.

Devon Conway is first batsman in Test history to reach 200 with a six on debut. And only third New Zealanders, after Mathew Sinclair & Brendon McCullum, to reach 200 in Tests with a maximum.

New Zealand lost wickets at regular intervals and barring the 174-run stand for the fourth wicket, there were hardly any contribution from the rest of the batsmen. The Kiwis opted to bat first after winning the toss. It turned out to be not a wise decision. If not for Devon Conway’s innings, Kane Williamson’s side would have been bowled out for a mere 150 or even less than that.
The England bowlers made merry on a wicket that had good assistance for pacers. Playing his maiden Test match, Ollie Robinson picked up 4/75. His wickets included the likes of Latham and Taylor. Williamson was dismissed by James Anderson yet again in Test match cricket.
Mark Wood picked three for 81, He dismissed, Nicholls, Watling and Santner. It was an impressive bowling performance from the England bowlers, but Conway’s heroics stole the limelight from them. The Kiwis have already made a breakthrough defending their score of 378. Kyle Jamieson dismissed opener Dominc Sibley for 15.
