Twitter Reacts As India Women Beat England Women By 4 Runs To Book Final Berth And Confirm A Medal In Birmingham CWG 2022
Indian women led by Harmanpreet Kaur booked a place in the gold medal match of the Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022 after defeating England women in a thrilling encounter at Edgbaston.
Batting first, Kaur and co. were off to a flyer courtesy of a stunning 76-run opening partnership between Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma. The former looked in excellent touch, doing the bulk of the scoring.
She blazed away to a 32-ball 61 while Shafali was playing more sedately. However, the duo fell in a space of four balls, leaving two new batters at the crease. Fortunately, Jemimah Rodrigues played sensibly and with the help of cameos from Harmanpreet and Deepti Sharma, India put up 164 on the board.
In response, England blazed away to 58 in the 6-over powerplay. Danielle Wyatt looked in good touch but the hosts kept losing wickets at regular intervals, with Sneh Rana doing the damage.
A 54-run partnership for the 4th wicket between Amy Jones and Natalie Sciver brought them back on track. Unfortunately, Jones was run out at a crucial moment, leaving the skipper to do the work in the company of the others.
However, the 29-year-old Sciver couldn’t really put her foot on the pedal and played an uncharacteristic 43-ball 41, eventually being run out by Mandhana. 14 runs were needed off the final over but Rana held her nerve, helping India secure a berth in the final of the CWG 2022.
Here’s how Twitter reacted to India Women’s stunning win:
