IND vs WI: Twitter Reacts As Shreyas Iyer Plays Measured Knock On Return To ODI Cricket
Indian batter Shreyas Iyer got back to form in his first game after recovering from Covid-19. He played a fine knock of 80 before he was dismissed by Hayden Walsh in an attempt to up the ante.
The third ODI got underway on Friday with India making as many as four changes in their playing XI from the previous game. Given that it’s a dead rubber, it was expected that the bench strength would be tested.
Iyer returned to the XI in place of KL Rahul and he immediately had an impact. Coming at the fall of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s successive wickets, he had the responsibility of rebuilding the innings.
Circumspect right from the get-go, Iyer ensured that he took his time and played each ball according to its merit. The West Indies bowlers were able to extract movement and bounce off a spicy Ahmedabad pitch once again.
They resorted to their short-ball strategy, which is often seen as a weakness of Iyer. He braved it all and reached his fifty in the company of wicket-keeper batter, Rishabh Pant.
Soon after, Pant was dismissed but Iyer kept going despite wickets tumbling at the other end. His sturdy innings came to an end in the 38th over and he was the sixth wicket to fall for India. Nevertheless, his 80-run knock would have inspired faith in Indian team management regarding the state of their middle-order.
Here’s how Twitter reacted to Shreyas Iyer’s excellent knock:

Solid knock by Shreyas Iyer, he was under lot of pressure with India losing early wickets. The way he showed his class through the knock and gave that space for Pant to attack in the middle is appreciable.
