India sports minister for the center, Kiren Rijiju has come under some criticism for not wearing a mask and touching cricketing and other equipment without gloves, hence breaking the COVID-19 protocols.

Kiren Rijiju had accompanied President of India Sh. Ramnath Kovind and home minister Amit Shah on February 24, 2021, as the President performed bhumi pujan and inaugurated the revamped Motera Cricket Stadium renamed Narendra Modi Stadium, the world’s largest cricket stadium which has a capacity of over 1.30 lakhs.

On the eve of the pink-ball Test, the Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports, Kiren Rijiju had taken a tour of the whole Narendra Modi Stadium alongside the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Jay Shah.

Rijiju also shared some photos from his visit on his social media account on Twitter as he praised the authorities of the Gujarat Cricket Association for building such a spectacular stadium.

‘‘A proud moment! Hon’ble President Shri Ram Nath Kovind Ji will inaugurate the largest Cricket Stadium in the world at Ahmedabad tomorrow. A vision set by PM @narendramodi Ji & executed by HM @AmitShah Ji is here. @JayShah Secy BCCI briefed me about the world-class facilities!,’’ the minister tweeted.

However, in the same photos, Rijiju is seen in the Team India dressing room along with Shah, touching the cricketing equipment of one of the players, and is also not wearing a mask. This led to a massive storm on Twitter as fans and users criticized Rijiju and Shah for not following COVID-19 regulations.

This may become a serious matter as the matches between India and England are being conducted in a bio-secure bubble wherein nobody apart from players, support staff, and match officials are allowed to enter the dressing room or touch the belongings of the players.

Therefore the photos of the minister violating the masking protocol and touching the equipment without gloves received not a great reception from fans and Twitter users.
