Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Suresh Raina have officially parted ways after the franchise filled up its allowed number of slots but didn’t make a bid for the 36-year-old.

Raina has played for CSK right from the beginning of IPL’s inception apart from the two years that CSK was barred from participating in the league (2016,2017). Ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction, it was expected that he would reunite with his franchise.

However, it wasn’t to be. The 36-year-old went unsold on Day 1 of the auction and before he was brought up on Day 2, CSK had already burned their 25 slots.

With that, the curtains are brought down on the relationship between Raina and CSK. In total, he played 176 matches for them and scored 4687 runs at an average of 32.32 and a healthy strike rate of 136.93.

He has also taken 24 wickets while playing for the franchise and was one of the most trusted sentinels of the skipper, MS Dhoni. He was also the first player in IPL’s history to breach the 5000-run mark and he did it while playing for CSK in the 2019 season.

Expectedly, the fans were riled up after CSK opted to ignore Raina in the auction. While some came to terms with the situation and bid the legendary player goodbye, others couldn’t understand the reasoning behind CSK’s decision.
