Former India opener Gautam Gambhir has caused quite a stir with his blunt assessment of Virat Kohli’s captaincy in the wake of Royal Challengers Bangalore failing in yet another IPL season. The Bangalore-based outfit’s journey in the IPL 2020 came to an end with a disappointing loss against SunRisers Hyderabad in the Eliminator on Friday.
Virat Kohli has now failed to lead RCB to the title for eight years since taking charge as captain. His best performance as captain came in 2016 when he led the team to the final where they lost to SRH. Gautam Gambhir, nonetheless, didn’t mince his words as he slammed Virat Kohli for constantly failing to deliver and asked him to step down.

The former Kolkata Knight Riders captain believes Virat Kohli’s non-performance as RCB captain should lead to his removal from the hot seat as it is now a question of accountability. He also stated that Kohli’s name as a leader shouldn’t be taken alongside the likes of MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma, who are IPL’s most successful captains.
“100%, because the problem is about accountability. Eight years into the tournament (without a trophy), eight years is a long time,” Gautam Gambhir told ESPNcricinfo after being asked if Kohli should be removed as captain.
“Tell me any other captain forget about captain, tell me any other player who would have got eight years and wouldn’t have won the title and would have still continued with it. So it has to be accountability,” added Gambhir who led KKR to two IPL titles.
“Eight years is a long, long time. Look at what happened to R Ashwin. Two years of captaincy (for the Kings XI Punjab), he couldn’t deliver and he was removed,” added the former captain.

Fans’ reaction to Gautam Gambhir’s comments:
Unsurprisingly, Gautam Gambhir’s straightforward comments have caused a stir and the cricket fraternity was quick to react to it. A number of fans took to Twitter to react to the comment and most of them agreed with Gambhir’s words and said that Kohli should indeed step down after yet another failure.
Here are some of the reactions:
Agree 100% with Gautam Gambhir. Virat Kohli must take responsibility for his team’s failures. He has been captain with zero accountability. RCB needs a new captain @<!---->G<!---->a<!---->u<!---->t<!---->a<!---->m<!---->G<!---->a<!---->m<!---->b<!---->h<!---->i<!---->r #<!---->T<!---->h<!---->a<!---->n<!---->k<!---->y<!---->o<!---->u<!---->K<!---->o<!---->h<!---->l<!---->i

Truth b*mbs by Gambhir. Over the years they have tried everything – Change in management, coaching staff, venue, team, strategy. Only 2 things remain constant – AB and VK. Someone needs to assess this! h<!---->t<!---->t<!---->p<!---->s<!---->:<!---->/<!---->/<!---->t<!---->.<!---->c<!---->o<!---->/<!---->X<!---->k<!---->r<!---->p<!---->N<!---->7<!---->K<!---->1<!---->w<!---->g

Respect to Gambhir for not mincing any words.8 freaking years, the same story every year still Kohli is untouchable when he is the main reason for failure.Dhoni was removed from Pune captaincy just after 1 year though he had already won 2 ipls with CSK.Gambhir resigned mid season

Perfect answer by Gambhir.
The fact that, appreciate captain alone for success of the team and create sympathy for the captain to show them as innocent and helpless post-defeat has always bothered me.
Culture needs to change. one should be crowned for sheer proven talent.

I don't find anything wrong in whatever Gambhir has said. If we can criticize Dhoni so much for one poor season and if Rohit gets trolled so much for his lackluster batting despite his team is in finals. Virat Kohli should be held accountable for poor performance of RCB.

To be honest, if not for Gambhir i don't think any cricket Analyst/expert in India would even dare to question about Kohli the RCB captain.
He is the only one who has brought this topic again after last year.
other experts easily say remove Smith- Karthik, not a word on Kohli.
