IND vs SA: Twitter Reacts As Ajinkya Rahane Misses Out On A Half Century At Centurion

Ajinkya Rahane couldn’t quite capitalize on the good start that he got on day 1 as he fell just two runs short of what could have been a welcome half-century for the former Indian vice-captain. The right-hander tried to smash a good length delivery from Lungi Ngidi to the off-side, but only managed to get a thick edge that found the gloves of Quinton de Kock.

This was the second wicket of the morning for South Africa as they have made a roaring comeback into the Test match. Fans on Twitter were having mixed reactions to Ajinkya Rahane’s wicket. Many trolled the right-hander for failing to convert another start but believe that he has done enough to save his place in the team.

It has been a disastrous start to the morning for Team India after all the hard work they had done on Day 1 being in a strong position at 272/3. KL Rahul, like at Lord’s, missed out on converting his hundred into a big one. He top-edged a delivery that was down the leg side straight into the hands of De Kock.

Ajinkya Rahane had the opportunity to convert his start into a half-century or even a hundred. The right-hander has been struggling for runs in 2021 and before this innings wasn’t even averaging 20. He looked quite positive in his strokeplay and it seemed as if he would get to a big score. However, he became Ngidi’s fourth scalp.

The absence of Ravindra Jadeja was always going to question India’s balance in the lower middle-order and that was unfortunately once again exposed as India went in with what many thought was one batsman short. Ravichandran Ashwin walked out to bat at No.7 and Rabada ensured that his stay at the crease was short.

Ngidi notched up another fifer in his Test career when he had Rishabh Pant caught at short leg through a soft dismissal. Shardul Thakur threatened to play another flying knock but Rabada and Ngidi have been just too good in the opening spell.
