The leading run-scorer for England in all formats of the game, Alastair Cook is signing off from the International Cricket following the Oval Test in London against India. Moreover, his retirement announcement certainly did not go well with his die-hard fans.
On Monday (September 3), he announced his international retirement announcement for England.
The final Test match of the ongoing series against India at Kennington Oval in London will be the final International game for Cook. However, the dead rubber will kick off on September 7. It has been the ordinary last one year for Cook with his willow.
Alastair Cook – A great success story:
Additionally, the stylish southpaw Cook has always been the splendid player for England. Perhaps, the best opening batsman England had ever had in their cricketing history.
Veteran campaigner Cook is rock solid in his defence and can accumulate those quick runs when it mattered the most.
Meanwhile, since announcing his resignation as the skipper, Cook’s form with his willow has faded away. In addition, he hardly came good for England as he used to be.
From last one year, he numbered only one fifty for England. But despite scoring double centuries against Windies and Australia, his average reads only 35 since 2017.
However, Cook has got the sound records under his belt to call him one of the all-time greats of the game.
“After much thought and deliberation over the last few months I have decided to announce my retirement from international cricket at the end of this Test series against India,” he said.
“Although it is a sad day, I can do so with a big smile on my face knowing I have given everything and there is nothing left in the tank,” Cook said while announcing the retirement.
All in all, Cook has gone many moments to cherish as a player of England. So, he is the leading run-scorer in a couple of most prestigious Ashes series and led the Three Lions splendidly on numerous occasions.
Also, here is how Twitterati reacted over the retirement of Alastair Cook on his retirement from International cricket:

What a wonderful, wonderful player Alastair Cook is. At the heart of arguably the finest series-win by an overseas side in India in 2012. Been six years & England still haven't found a replacement to Strauss. Imagine how long it'll take to replace Cook..

Classy timing from Alastair Cook to retire when series has been clinched and one Test left. Short fanfare, no fuss, not distracting; typical of a bloke who has always let his bat do the talking. Cook has been a tremendous servant and a top role model. Thank you Cooky

Alastair Cook deserves the biggest of send-offs at the Oval. Fantastic cricketer who must hold dozens of spectacular records. Unlikely I will ever see a player have a more dominating and flawless series than Cook had in the 2010/11 Ashes. Enjoy your farm! #ThankYouChef

Alastair Cook's 235* in Brisbane, 221 runs behind on first innings alongside Andrew Strauss in 2010 was when I fell in love with cricket.

Even the best things have to end.
It's been an honour to watch him walk out to bat and score over 12,000 Test runs with his Gray-Nicolls. We could ask for no finer ambassador.
