Veteran batsman Ambati Rayudu has announced his retirement from international cricket after being snubbed twice from the ICC World Cup 2019 squad. Meanwhile, Rayudu was in the five-member reserve list for the marquee tournament. The decision comes after the selectors preferred Mayank Agarwal over him to replace injured Vijay Shankar for the remainder of the World Cup.

In the 50 ODI innings that he has played, Ambati Rayudu has scored 1694 runs at an average of 47.05 with a top score of an unbeaten 124. He has hit three centuries and ten fifties and has a strike rate of 79.04. In the five T20Is innings that he has played, Rayudu has scored 42 runs at an average of 10.50.

Ambati Rayudu was in very much contention for a World Cup spot leading to the tournament. Even skipper Virat Kohli backed him to be no four batsman – the most debated batting spot of the mega event. But three dimensional Vijay Shankar peeped Rayudu to be in the plane to England after his poor outing in the Indian Premier League for Chennai Super Kings. Soon after that, questioned the selectors’ decision to pick Shankar over him with a tweet that mocked a statement by the head selector.

The decision comes after the selectors decided to go with youngsters Rishabh Pant and Mayank Agarwal over Ambati Rayudu after injuries led Shikhar Dhawan and Vijay Shankar ruled out of the World Cup. However, the veteran batsman has not stated the reason for his retirement and has stated that he will continue to play in the Indian Premier League. Meanwhile, in a shocking tweet, Iceland cricket offered Rayudu permanent residency in their country so that he can play for them after he was once again looked over for a World Cup spot in the Indian team.

If Rayudu thinks he was hard done by, he has no one but to blame himself. Obviously didn't do justice to the role he was expected to do and to top it off, sent out a hasty sly tweet when he was left out of WC despite him being named as a standby.

It matters. Why would you take dig at management/selectors when they have power and good excuse to exclude you. If Pant would've done this, then it was acceptable because he's a 21 year old immature boy. But an experienced player like Rayudu doing this is not acceptable at all.
