West Indies made a resounding comeback to level the series in Thiruvananthapuram beating India by eight wickets on December 8 (Sunday). The Caribbeans chased down the target convincingly with nine balls to spare to make the third and final game of the series a decider on December 11.
West Indies made a great start in pursuit adding 73 runs for the first wicket within 10 overs to set the tone for the chase. Evin Lewis was the aggressor of the two with Lendl Simmons playing second fiddle. Both of them dominated the Indian pacers with the wicket getting better to favour the batsmen. They played their shots easily and marched towards the target before Washington Sundar provided the first breakthrough to have the Caribbeans at 73 for one.

West Indies chase down India’s target convincingly
But Lendl Simmon played the anchor-in-chief to pace the chase pretty well Shimron Hetmyer played his shots during his brisk knock of 23 runs including three sixes. Since his departure, Simmons and Nicholas Pooran shared a match-winning stand to chase down the target with ease to level the series. Simmons remained unbeaten on 67 runs while Pooran chipped in with 38 runs to reach the target with nine balls to spare.
Previously, batting first, on the back of Shivam Dube’s swashbuckling fifty and the cameo by Rishabh Pant, India have managed to post a competitive total on a slightly sluggish wicket in Thiruvananthapuram. Rahul, Rohit and Virat failed to fire, but it was the two young left-handers who gave India some respectability. After conceding more than 90 runs in the initial 10 overs of the innings, it was a good comeback by Windies to pull things back and restrict India to 170.

Hayden Walsh and Kesrick Williams bagged two wickets each, whereas Sheldon Cottrell executed his variations smartly towards the end. India produced an outstanding effort with the bat in the last game but failed to replicate the effort on a two-paced wicket where it was difficult for the batsmen to play shots. However, it was not enough to seal the series a West Indies reached the target quite easily.

Afraid the fielders have to support the bowlers better. India have, unusually, dropped too many lately

Stretching back to Bangladesh series, India's fielding has ranged from poor to shocking with brief superb moments in between. #IndvWI

Terrific batting by West Indies young guns Lewis, Simmons, Hetmyer, but everything upstaged by truly sensational catch by @imVkohli. Is this the turning point of the match I wonder?

Batting first is the bigger nemesis for India in this format. From 97-2 in 10.2 overs they managed just 73 in the last 10-odd overs and 170 was never going to be enough. Two sides to the same team, batting first or chasing down totals. #INDvsWI

I thought the chase would be more difficult. Yes, the ball was a bit moist, but can't let that take away from an excellent West Indies run chase

Outstanding piece of fielding from the Indian captain. Spectacular catch in the outfield #INDvsWI @BCCI #ViratKohli

The last time Lendl Simmons scored a T20I fifty – also vs India – 82 at Mumbai in SF #WT20 in 2016

India had just five sixes in their innings but West Indies have had 11 already. That’s game, set and match ! #cricket #IndvWI

Outstanding chase by WI. Well played ??Made difficult task look easy. Such fantastic potential and calibre, especially in batting! Should be top of ICC ranking in this format, not at the bottom, if they set their minds on it and develop self belief

T20I World Champions West Indies crush India to win the 2nd T20I, WI are without Russell, Gayle, CBrawaite & Narine. Brutal hitting by Simmons, Lewis, Hetmyr & Pooran. outstanding death bowling by WI as well. Well played West Indies. Proper Hammering ?? @windiescricket #INDvWI

H. Pandya and Bumrah should he the first 2 picks while picking the T-20 side. One gives you 15-20 extra runs and the other only gives away 15-20 runs. Match winners in this format. #INDvWI
