Twitter sympathises with Kane Williamson After Sunrisers Hyderabad Remove Him As Captain

Sunrisers Hyderabad, on Thursday, removed Kane Williamson as their captain and renamed David Warner as his replacement ahead of the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Kane Williamson led the franchise in the last two seasons and did a brilliant job.
He was named the captain in 2018 after David Warner was barred from playing in the IPL in the wake of the ball-tampering scandal. The New Zealand skipper made an instant impact and led the team to the final where it lost to Chennai Super Kings. In the last season, he led the Sunrisers to the playoffs.
David Warner, on the other hand, led the team during its victorious season in 2016. He returned to IPL action last year but the franchise stayed with Kane Williamson as its first-choice captain – with Bhuvneshwar Kumar filling in as his deputy. Warner, however, made his presence felt with the bat by finishing the competition as the top run-scorer.
“I’m thrilled to be given the captaincy for this coming IPL 2020,” Warner said in a message. “I’m extremely grateful to be given the opportunity to lead the team once again.
“I’d like to thank Kane and Bhuvi for the way you guys led throughout the last couple of years, you guys did an outstanding job. And I’ll be leaning on you guys for support and your insight to the game as well. And to the management thank you once again for giving me this opportunity. And I’ll try my very, very best to lifting that IPL Trophy this year,” he added.
Warner has been the batting mainstay of the franchise since joining them in 2014. He made an instant impact in his debut season for the franchise, scoring 528 runs in 14 matches at a strike rate of 140.80. He was named captain for the following year and it did wonders for his batting. In the four seasons he has played since, Warner scored 562, 848, 642 and 692 runs – finishing with the Orange Cap in 2015, 2017 and 2019.
Twitter disappointed:
While David Warner’s appointment as captain is not very surprising given his performance for the franchise, a number of fans were disappointed with the way the Hyderabad-based outfit treated Kane Williamson. The fans took to Twitter to sympathize with the New Zealand star.
Here are some of the reactions:
It was rather like an open secret that David Warner would return as captain of @SunRisers. He is much loved there, as indeed is Kane Williamson. I suspect it has to do with being guaranteed a spot in the starting eleven with Warner, Bairstow and Rashid taking 3 out of 4

When you needed him the most, he stepped up & produced the best result, now that you don’t need you’ll just keep him away. @SunRisers should reconsider the decision. Poor management #KaneWilliamson #Captain #IPL2020

A bit harsh on #KaneWilliamson. He did a fabulous job last season, took his team to the top four and missed the semi-final berth by a whisker. With @davidwarner31 back at the helm, Kane's position in the team even as a batsman is not guaranteed now. #IPL2020 https://t.co/lZEmaV9Uv1

SRH should have released Kane Williamson in the Auction itself. Some other teams would have surely picked him. #IPL2020
