Out of favour Pakistan cricketer, Umar Akmal has set his aims for a national comeback after he got ignored for Pakistan’s upcoming tour of Ireland and England.

Umar stated his performance in the upcoming Pakistan Cup would force the Pakistan selectors and the team management to take him in the squad.

Umar was touted as one of the brightest prospects in the country when he first broke into the scene. He smashed a century in his Test debut against New Zealand, and many predicted a tremendous future for the young lad.

However, as time has flown by, he hasn’t been able to realise his potential on a consistent basis. He has been quite patchy and barring a few innings here and there he has been highly unpredictable which has led to his ouster from the team.

“I will do well in Pakistan Cup and force the selectors to take me on.”

We are aware of the fact that Umer doesn’t enjoy a healthy relationship with the national coach, Mickey Arthur. It was Arthur who decided not to pick Umer due to his indifferent fitness.

I don’t know why Arthur doesn’t like me

Speaking about Arthur, Umar said he is not aware of the reason that why Arthur doesn’t like him. However, he added as a coach Umer likes him.

“I don’t know why Mickey Arthur doesn’t like me, but as a coach I like him.”

“I can’t say much about [Mickey Arthur], but I am insistent on what I said before. If you look at my last four Test innings, I did 3x50s and did not get to bat in one inning. So at that point, Waqar Younis said that he [Umar] is no longer a Test player,” Umar said. “This you must ask them [other coaches] why I was not selected for Tests, but I am not giving up hope.”

Umar further insisted on the fact if Fakhar Zaman is given a break in Test cricket then he should be given a longer run.

He added he shouldn’t get dropped if he doesn’t succeed in one of two Tests. He was also disappointed with Fawad Alam not getting a chance despite maintaining a healthy average in first-class cricket.

“If you look at how Fawad Alam has maintained his average as a middle order batsman, and how he has performed in our domestic cricket which is very difficult, it is shocking news for me that he hasn’t been selected,” Umar said.

“I can’t tell you what good human being Fawad is and how he respects youngsters and seniors alike,” he added.
