Unfazed Purnima was the coach of Indian Women’s Team that won the Asia Cup title in 2016. She was also the member of the side during a successful series against Australia and ICC’s World Cup Qualifiers. She, however, was removed from the job just before two months of the 2017 World Cup.

Her interview.

In an interview with one of the leading newspaper of the country, The Hindu. she said,

“It is surprising to see Tushar Arothe (who took over from Purnima in April 2017) quit. You asked for him and he is forced to take that decision without any specific reason. Obviously, the decisions were taken at the higher level. If you remember, they removed me after I saw the team through to the last World Cup qualifiers. Now, it is Tushar’s turn to face the music.”

Handling the national team, not a club.

The former skipper was fumed as she asserted that accountability is the key in this procedure. She also stressed by saying the people who are raising their fingers should let it know first the coaches are not handling any club side.

“Let everyone remember that the coaches in question are not handling any club side but the Indian team. It is a short-sighted approach,” the former India captain said.

Demerits of short stints:

The former skipper reiterated short stints of any coach whether in Men’s team or women’s cricket, it will not provide any benefit instead of that, it will act as a barrier in the final analysis and especially when the coaches will be taking any decision in the right direction requiring a considerable amount of time.

A sincere appeal from Purnima Rau:

The former coach said Purnima is surely not up for the job as she is leading a contented life now while focusing on the accountability.

“Accountability is the key in the issue. It can be Diana (Edulji), the coach, the selectors or the players. That’s why I appeal sincerely to all the concerned to sort it out once and for all. Well, I am not up for the job for sure. I am leading a contented life now,” Purnima added.
