Usman Khawaja Shocked After Failing To Make Cut For India Tour

Out-of-favour Australia batsman Usman Khawaja didn’t beat around the bush or mince his words as he expressed his disappointment over the axe from the ODI team. Along with the likes of Marcus Stoinis and Glenn Maxwell, the left-handed batsman was one of the big names who was not selected for Australia’s tour of India.
Usman Khawaja was one of seven members of the World Cup squad that did not make the new-look team for the three-match tour of India next month. The setback comes after Khawaja was dropped from the Test side during the Ashes. He was also not recalled to the team for the ongoing home season as the batsman started Sheffield Shield on a poor note.

But his omission from the ODI side has been really baffling. Usman Khawaja is Australia’s second highest run-scorer in ODIs this year. He has scored an impressive 1085 ODI runs at 49.31 for the year. He scored two centuries and as many fifties earlier this year when Australia bounced back from 0-2 to beat India 3-2 in their own backyard.

Usman Khawaja disappointed:
Usman Khawaja insisted that he was not expecting the snub at all. The top-order batsman, who recently 398 runs at 79.60 in the Marsh Cup, said that he was shocked to get the axe from the ODI team. The left-handed batsman made it crystal clear that he was not at all impressed with the selectors’ decision.
“In all honesty I wasn’t expecting to be dropped,” Khawaja said after making 66 in the Sydney Thunder’s victory over Melbourne Renegades. “Normally when you’re getting dropped, you feel like there’s a chance. When I was at the Ashes over there, I thought, ‘there’s a chance [of getting dropped] here.’ You sort of see it coming.
“I didn’t really see this one coming. It took me by a little bit of shock. They can’t really tell me to score more runs because I’m one of the highest run-scorers in international cricket. I scored plenty of runs and did plenty well when I came back here, so I don’t think there was too much they could say, and there wasn’t too much I wanted to say back to them.
“It’s disappointing, I copped it on the chin and I’m just looking forward to playing for Thunder now,” he added.
