There have always been rumours about star cricketers entering into politics just when the Lok Sabha elections approach. In 2014, there were talks over a few Indian cricketers campaigning for a political party because of their fanbase in the country. Five years later, the story didn’t change, as the tabloids or the media houses have begun putting up news of former cricketers coming into politics. One person, whose name has come out on both the occasions is the veteran India opener, Virender Sehwag. In his latest Twitter post, Sehwag revealed his #5YearChallenge as well.

Not interested then, not interested now – Sehwag clears the air

Not only Virender Sehwag, his former teammate and friend, Gautam Gambhir’s name had also fallen under the same rumour box. Days before Gautam announced his international retirement; the news began spreading the former India opener will enter the politics. However, Gambhir quashed all such reports, saying there is no truth behind this.

Now, Virender Sehwag has also come out and cleared the air over his future. The veteran batsman, in his latest tweet, has all but bashed the reports of him contesting from anywhere for a ticket of a particular political party. He though did it in some style; mentioning the trending #5YearChallenge into it. Virender Sehwag said nothing has changed in five years, as the same rumour stories have been surfacing on the internet. Moreover, Sehwag seems upset with the pattern of the news headlines, as it didn’t change either.

“Some things never change, like this Rumour. Same in 2014, and no innovation even in Rumour in 2019. Not interested then, not interested now.

Meanwhile, Virender Sehwag, of late has been active on the social media and is often found hailing about team India’s performance on tour Down Under. As of now, India has levelled the three-match T20Is 1-1.
