Mumbai Indians (MI) head coach Mahela Jayawardene was seen giving advice to all-rounder Hardik Pandya during MI’s net session yesterday. The legendary Sri Lankan was asking Hardik to talk less with the bowler and focus on his batting instead.

Hardik has been woefully out of form after coming back from his injury. He hasn’t bowled a single delivery yet either, thereby reducing the amount of value he brings to the team. As a result, several people feel that he shouldn’t be included in the team as a specialist batsman.

The 27-year-old’s poor form has also affected Mumbai a lot. They are on the brink of an exit from the league stage after KKR’s victory over RR yesterday night in Sharjah. Nevertheless, Hardik is working on his batting now that the T20 World Cup is almost upon us.

MI tweeted the video of Hardik taking tips from Jayawardene, with the caption: “The intent & right attitude is all that matters. Watch a candid conversation between Hardik & Mahela during a net session.”

“Stop talking to the bowlers” – Mahela Jayawardene’s thoughts on what Hardik does in the middle

The former Lankan batsman pointed out that Hardik engages in a lot of conversation with the bowlers while he’s wielding the willow. This is something that needs to be reduced, and instead, he should be talking to himself and maintaining focus, as per Jayawardene.

And the other thing when you are practicing as well. Stop the commentary, stop talking to the bowlers, telling them it’s a good length, and stuff like that. You don’t do that in a match. So do whatever you do in the middle during a match. You just talk to yourself. You know, like if you do something wrong, you do whatever you do to yourself,” he said to Hardik.

MI is practically out of contention for the playoff spot but will be going up against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in their final league game tonight.
