Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja knocked over set England batsman Haseeb Hameed with a lovely delivery. Jadeja utilized the rough patches on the pitch and got one to spin sharply, passing the defensive prod of Hameed.

After his partner, Rory Burns, fell, Hameed had the responsibility of shouldering the innings. He looked quite cautious, not going for any aggressive strokes or indicating that the hosts wanted to chase the total down.

This may have brought about his downfall as his defensive mindset came back to bite him. Jadeja, who had one end tied down, continued to pitch the ball on the patches. He was able to extract a lot of turn as a result, and one of them did the damage.

Jadeja tossed a delivery right on the brown patch which turned sharply. Hameed prodded forward in defense only for the ball to sneak past his bat and crash into the stumps. It ended a vigilant stay at the crease for Hameed, and he went back after scoring 63.

England in all sorts of trouble after stunning collapse

Hameed’s dismissal soon after Lunch sparked an unforeseen collapse from the English batsmen, as the wickets tumbled almost every other over. Ollie Pope, the top-scorer in the first innings, received a sharp in-ducker from Jasprit Bumrah and had his stumps rattled.

That was also the pacer’s 100th wicket in Tests. If that wasn’t enough, Bumrah produced an even better yorker to Jonny Bairstow. It was one of the best spells seen in the calendar year, as the wily pacer extracted huge amounts of reverse swing.

Jadeja then struck once again by dismissing Moeen Ali, and England slipped to 149/6 after being on 100/0 at one stage. India was right on top but Joe Root continued to stand tall at one end.
