In what was a pretty emotional moment during the second One-day International between India and England, swashbuckling all-rounder Ben Stokes apologized to his late father for not reaching the 100-run mark.

Ben Stokes was dismissed for a 52-ball 99- an innings which included four fours and as many as ten monstrous sixes- by Bhuvneshwar Kumar after he failed to connect the attempted pull-stroke to give an easy catch to wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant.

As soon as the Durham all-rounder got out, he looked in the sky and said sorry to his father, who passed away recently following a long battle with brain cancer.

That said, it was an innings for the ages by the 2019 World Cup-winner Ben Stokes in which he knocked the stuffing out of the Indian bowling-unit, especially the spin-bowling duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Krunal Pandya.

Ben Stokes, who had come to the middle following the dismissal of Jason Roy in the 17th over, played second fiddle to opener Jonny Bairstow for a major part of his innings as he accumulated a 40-ball half-century.

But once he got to his 50, Ben Stokes launched an assault for the ages against Kuldeep Yadav and Krunal Pandya as he smashed the duo for six sixes and one four within a space of two overs.

Ben Stokes notched up his next 49 runs in mere 11 balls and even though he failed to get past the three-figure mark, by the time he was dismissed, he had already pulled the game in England’s favor, which they eventually won despite a mini-collapse.
