Watch: "Come On, Big Mouth" Virat Kohli Gives Ollie Robinson A Fiery Welcome On Day 5

India captain Virat Kohli was in the face of each England batter throughout the fifth day of the Lord’s Test as the hosts battled for survival in the final innings of the game. He was in the ears of Ollie Robinson right from the time he got near the batting crease.

Robinson came in at number 9, after the fall of Sam Curran, and the Indian skipper seemed charged up more than he usually was on the day. As soon as Robinson came near the middle, Virat Kohli, with no subtlety let him knew that he was going to get some serious verbal volleys.

From plenty of what Virat Kohli said, some of which was heard that “Playing for survival in every home match.” A jibe at England’s state in Test cricket in recent years, even at home. They lost a couple of Tests in the 2019 Ashes, then lost a Test to West Indies, and earlier this year, the Three Lions lost a series to New Zealand – their first home series loss in seven years.

Furthermore, letting Robinson know how to bat in this situation, he compared it with Cheteshwar Pujara’s slow knock. He added: “Pujj (Pujara), How boring was your innings? How boring was your innings? (Indicating at Robinson) – Maybe, That’s how you survive in a test match.”

In fact, it appeared that Virat Kohli was waiting for Robinson’s turn to bat, indicated by his comment, “Come on, big mouth(Robinson), Gonna bring your sheets today?”

It suggests that Robinson also dished out plenty of verbals to the Indian batters – mostly at the time when Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami were annoying the English bowlers earlier in the day.

Ollie Robinson, playing just his third Test match has had an impressive start to his Test career, his off-field Twitter saga aside. He took 7 wickets on his debut against New Zealand before being suspended. Then returned with a five-fer in Nottingham against India; he also dismissed Virat Kohli at Lord’s in the first innings.

But, now it was his batting, and defence, which England need as they hope to escape with a draw. At the time of writing, England need to survive 10 overs more, with three wickets in hand and Robinson and Jos Buttler have done a good job so far with their defences.
