The ongoing Indians and Select County XI warm-up game at Durham saw India’s Mohammed Siraj taking the wicket of teammate Washington Sundar, who turned out for the opposition side for a single-digit score.

The match saw the hosts asking the Indian contingent for some players to make up their playing XI after a few of their players went on mandatory isolation for coming in contact with Covid-19 positive people. This saw Washington Sundar and pace bowler Avesh Khan turning out for the Select County XI in the three-day first-class game which began on July 20 at the Emirates Riverside ground or the Chester-Le-Street ground in Durham.

Indians batted first after Rohit Sharma won the toss. India left out the likes of Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane who complained of various niggles and rested Ishant Sharma, Mohammad Shami, and Ravichandran Ashwin from the match.

KL Rahul, who is keeping wickets in this encounter, scored a brilliant century, while all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja slammed an equally impressive 75 runs. Other batsmen like Mayank Agarwal, Cheteshwar Pujara, Hanuma Vihari, and Shardul Thakur all got starts but didn’t cross the 30-run mark. India folded for 311 runs.

The Select County XI started their innings poorly with Umesh Yadav removing Jake Libby for 12 runs and then Jasprit Bumrah accounted for Robert Yates for 1 and then came the clash of Indian vs Indian player as Mohammed Siraj went up against Washington Sundar who came out to bat at no.4 for the opposition side.

Sundar survived for six balls, but Mohammed Siraj got one to bounce from a good length, which led to Washington Sundar gloving the ball into the slip cordon, where he was caught by Rohit Sharma. Sundar had faced 7 balls to score just one run and his wicket left the Select County XI teetering at 29/3.

Meanwhile, the other Indian player playing for the Select County XI team, fast bowler Avesh Khan has been reportedly ruled out of the match and the upcoming England Test series, after PTI reported that he has sustained a fracture in his left thumb after being hit by the ball hit by Hanuma Vihari while bowling.
