Chennai Super Kings all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja took Royal Challengers Bangalore paceman Harshal Patel to the sword, smashing the highest number of runs in a single over in IPL 2021. Harshal Patel came into the match against the Super Kings in Mumbai holding the purple cap; however, he copped a beating from Ravindra Jadeja in the 20th over. The southpaw clubbed the right-arm paceman for 37 runs, including five sixes.

Ravindra Jadeja arrived to bat in the 14th over and hardly looked like he would tee off in such a manner, given he struggled in the few overs before that. The 14th over was also perhaps the best over of the innings for the Royal Challengers as Harshal Patel took back to back wickets and conceded only a run. Faf Du Plessis, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Suresh Raina laid the foundation, leaving the finishers to lift the yellow army to a formidable total.

And Ravindra Jadeja did precisely that. The Saurashtra cricketer deposited the first two balls of the 20th over to mid-wicket as Harshal Patel missed his length. Patel delivered a waist-high no-ball from which Jadeja collected another six, followed by another from the free hit. The deep mid-wicket region saw another maximum as the 32-year old reached a 25-ball half-century.

Mohammed Siraj could not hold on to a chance at deep mid-wicket in the last second delivery as Jadeja finished the innings with a four over square leg. The 37-run over equalled Chris Gayle’s record of collecting most runs in an over in IPL when he did so for RCB against Kochi Tuskers Kerala off Prasanth Parameswaran in 2011. Ravindra Jadeja finished at 62 off 28 balls, with Harshal Patel’s figures reading 4-0-51-3. Chennai set Bangalore 192 to win in 20 overs.
