After a string of failures, Steve Smith, on Friday, finally returned to his best as he scored a stunning century in the ongoing third Test against India at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). The right-handed batsman was in a desperate need of registering a big knock after failing to touch the double-digit mark in the first two Tests of the four-match series.

His scores in the first two Tests were – 1, 1*, 0 and 8. Unsurprisingly, he was under pressure to deliver and he responded in style at the SCG. The former Australia skipper scored 131 to help his side put up a challenging total of 338. The century was his 27th in Tests and eighth against India.

The century also ended his century drought which had extended to 490 days. Steve Smith had not scored a Test hundred since his Ashes-sealing double century at Old Trafford in September 2019. The right-handed batsman had failed to reach triple figures in 14 Test innings since his Ashes ton- the longest drought he had encountered since bringing up his first ton in 2013.

The century from Steve Smith was also the first one by an Australian against India since 2017. Incidentally, Smith was the one who had scored that ton when he reached the triple-digit mark against India during the Dharamsala Test in 2017.

Ravindra Jadeja’s stunning throw:

The way Steve Smith was batting, India needed something special on the field to get rid of him. And that moment of brilliance was provided by their allrounder Ravindra Jadeja. One of the best fielders in the world, Ravindra Jadeja ran Smith out with a stunning piece of work on the field.

Smith pushed a Jasprit Bumrah delivery into the on-side backward of square and tried to keep strike by going for a tight second run. He, however, fancied his chances against the wrong man and it did not take him long to realise his mistake. Before Smith could get back inside his crease safely, Ravindra Jadeja came running from square leg, picked the ball and hit the stumps directly.

Here are a couple of clips of that incredible run-out from Ravindra Jadeja:
