A Pakistani news channel has gone above and beyond in paying veteran Shoaib Malik a fitting tribute after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Saturday named the experienced cricketer Shoaib Malik in their ICC T20 World Cup 2021 squad. The 39-year-old replaced batter Sohaib Maqsood, who was ruled out due to a back injury.

Malik was not named either in the initial squad of the Pakistan team by the PCB or in the reserve players’ list. His name was thus not considered when PCB announced the final 15 players for the tournament, however, Maqsood injuring his back during a national tournament opened the doors to Malik’s return in the Pakistani squad.

Shoaib Malik was the captain of the Pakistani team which played in the inaugural T20 World Cup 2007 in South Africa and took the team to the finals of the tournament as well, losing to India.

A Pakistani news channel decided to give a heartfelt, yet a hilarious tribute to Shoaib Malik’s longevity in the game, especially after the fact that he has made his Pakistani team debut in 1999. The Samaa TV news channel dedicated a hilarious video of the veteran all-rounder.

The channel’s anchor said, “This person who has seen four decades in the world of cricket. The world has changed, but there is one man who has not changed. That is Shoaib Malik.”

In the video, the channel showed how the nation and the world have undergone many changes from Pervez Musharraf’s regime to Imran Khan’s, from mobile phones to Androids, but one constant in Pakistan was Malik who had been playing since 1999.

“Nawaz Sharif went, Musharraf came, then Zardari, then Sharif again and now Imran Khan, but Shoaib Malik has not changed. Twenty-two years ago when Shoaib Malik was on the pitch, Imran Khan had formed the PTI. After 22 years, he became the Prime Minister but something that has still not changed is Shoaib Malik. America came to Afghanistan, they left, Taliban’s reign has begun, but something that has not changed is Shoaib Malik,” it said in the video.
