Watch: USA Batsman Jaskaran Malhotra Slams 6 Sixes In An Over Against PNG

United States of America (USA) batsman and wicketkeeper Jaskaran Malhotra wrote himself into record books for two amazing feats during his team’s second ODI against Papua New Guinea on Thursday, September 9, 2021.

The match which was played at the Al-Amerat cricket ground in Oman was the second of the two-match series between the USA and PNG. PNG captain Assad Vala won the toss and chose to bowl first and had the opposition by its neck as they were reduced to 70-odd for four wickets.

But Jaskaran Malhotra who came in to bat at no.5 had other ideas and he smashed a brilliant century ending up with 173* in 124 balls. He hit 4 boundaries and 16 sixes in his innings while the only support he got was 22 from Aaron Jones and 20 from Nisarg Patel, while the rest failed to reach double figures.

His century was a historic one as it was the first-ever by a batsman in ODIs from the United States of America.

However, the cherry on the cake came in the last over of the USA innings, which was bowled by Gaudi Toka. Toka, who went wicketless in the entire match, came for some heavy punishment from Malhotra who slammed him for six consecutive sixes as he took the USA to a final total of 271/9.

Thanks to this feat, Malhotra became only the second batsman to achieve the record of hitting six sixes in an over. The first was South African legend Herschelle Gibbs, who slammed six maximums against the Netherlands in the ICC World Cup 2007 in the West Indies, the poor bowled at that time was Dan Van Bunge.

Other batsmen to achieve this feat in international cricket are Yuvraj Singh and Kieron Pollard, but both hit six sixes in an over in T20Is.

Malhotra threw everything at Toka in the final over as he misfired his length each time as Malhotra smashed him over long-on, extra cover, and long-off. Toka came around the wicket to change the angle for the fourth ball, Malhotra took a guard a foot outside off stump, and deposited the ball wide long-on.

Toka’s fifth ball was driven straight over his head for a six and the feat was completed when Malhotra smashed a waist-high full toss high over square leg.
