India captain Virat Kohli was seen batting in the nets during the lunch break on day 2 of the Indians and Select County XI warmup match in Durham. Kohli who was expected to captain the team in this match opted out due to a stiff back on the morning of day one.
After vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane was also ruled out due to a swelling in the hamstring, Rohit Sharma captained the Indian team, winning the toss and deciding to give the batsmen time out in the middle. Though the top order of Mayank Agarwal (28), Cheteshwar Pujara (21), and Hanuma Vihari (24) all got starts, none of them went onto capitalize on that start and make a big score.
Rohit Sharma, himself fell for just 9 runs. KL Rahul scored a brilliant 101 which included 11 fours and 1 six to his name and Ravindra Jadeja made full use of the opportunity to hit 75with 5 fours and 1 six. The duo added 127 runs for the 5th wicket before Rahul retired out.
Indians folded for 311 runs with Shardul Thakur adding 20 runs to the total. Craig Miles picked 4/45, while Lyndon James, Liam Patterson-White picked two wickets each. India’s Avesh Khan bowled 9.5 overs, but sustained an injury to his left thumb and was ruled out of the entire match.
Virat Kohli Bats In The Net During Lunch Break Of Warmup Game On Day 2
Virat Kohli had to pull out of the warmup game before it started on July 20 as he woke up with a stiff back and informed the team management about the same. This caused a lot of concern as Kohli is the premier batsman of the Indian team and his fitness has to be of prime importance if India needs to give a fight to England in the five-Test series starting August 4 in Trent Bridge.
But on day 2 of the match, Virat Kohli was seen batting in the nets during the lunch break in a video shared by the Durham Cricket club on their official Twitter account. It was reported that the Indian captain spent around 30 minutes in the nets to get his body loosened up and felt his back as well if it was up to the rigors of batting for a sustained period of time.
