England all-rounder Sam Curran has the reputation of making things happen, despite his ordinary numbers. An over before Lunch on Day 4 at Lord’s, the diminutive cricketer made things happen – and in such a manner that the entire English crowd roared with him; the Indian fans were left dejected as captain Virat Kohli had to trudge back to the dressing room after being dismissed for 20.

Kohli’s issues in the channel outside off-stump were once again on display as he was once again – for the second time in the series – caught behind nicking his outside edge.

Since his arrival on Sunday, Kohli has played a few gorgeous cover drives and has looked imperious. However, this time, it cost him his wicket.

Bowling from round the wicket, Sam Curran angled one across him; the ball on pitching further moved away from the right-hander, to which the Indian captain went fishing outside off stump. The ball landed safely in Jos Buttler’s mittens after taking a feather of an edge – but that was enough for Sam Curran to dismiss Kohli and take off for a sprint with the jubilant crowd behind him.

It was a clever setup from the bowler. He had started off his day bowling round the wicket to Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara. On seeming unthreatening to the Indian duo, Sam Curran shifted to over the wicket – his favoured angle to outfox the right-handers on moving the ball into them.

He did the same: on the ball previous to Kohli’s dismissal, the left-hander had pinged him on the pads with one that came in. Joe Root went for a review after the umpire denied England’s appeal. Although the ball was observed to be climbing over the stumps, it did plant a seed of doubt in Kohli’s mind – which Sam Curran utilized by inviting Kohli for a drive off his next ball, and it took the edge.

India are now reeling at 56/3 – which is effectively 29/3 as the hosts had taken a 27-run lead in the first innings.
