Vijay Hazare Trophy 2017/18: Tamil Nadu Include Ashwin, Vijay for List A Tournament

India Test players, Ravichandran Ashwin and Murali Vijay have been named in the Tamil Nadu squad for the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2018.

Both the players are not a part of the Indian team for the limited-overs series against South Africa and are available to play the tournament.

In fact, there are high chances of both the players taking part in the Deodhar Trophy and Irani Cup as well, as Indian team will play next Test in June against Afghanistan; both these players will be available for remaining domestic season.

Though this is a chance for Ashwin to put his case for selection in limited-overs squad, as Chief Selector, MSK Prasad had indicated. He said that doors are not close on Ashwin and Jadeja, and they can make a comeback in the limited-overs side as well.

Apart from these two, Baba Aprajith (Vice-captain), Vijay Shankar, Rahil Shah are the part of the squad to name a few. Shankar will lead the side in the tournament.

Washington Sundar is too part of the Tamil Nadu team. The tournament will be an opportunity for him to be in the national reckoning for the tour of Sri Lanka. He played the home limited-overs series against Sri Lanka but was dropped for the South Africa tour after Kedar Jadhav made a comeback.

Tamil Nadu will miss the services of Dinesh Karthik, who is a part of both ODI and T20I team. In fact, he also missed the Super League stage of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2017/18, as he was called in the Test side to replace an injured Wriddhiman Saha.

There was no comeback for the injured duo of Baba Indrajith and T Natarajan in TN side. Indrajith is recovering from a shoulder injury while Natarajan is recovering from an elbow injury. Sunrisers Hyderabad bought him at his base price of Rs 40 Lakh on the auction day.

Tamil Nadu will go in the Vijay Hazare Trophy tournament as the defending champions. They defeated Bengal in a low-scoring encounter last year to win the tournament. Karthik scored a century in the final to lead the team to victory, but this year, he will not play any part in the tournament.

Tamil Nadu will face Gujarat in their first contest of the tournament on February 5.
