Vijay Hazare Trophy 2017-18: Mumbai registers nervy win over Tamil Nadu

Mumbai completed a nervy win over Tamil Nadu in a low-scoring encounter in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy 2017-18.

The Aditya Tare-led side could only chase a total of 184 on the penultimate delivery of the 49th over of their innings.

Coming into chase a meagre target, Mumbai lost an early wicket in the form of Prithvi Shaw, who was dismissed on a score of nine. There were doubts over his participation in the game, but the former U19 World Cup winning captain somehow made it to the contest.

Though Prithvi could not continue his dream run and was dismissed early on.

Mumbai continued to lose wickets on a regular interval and were five down at a score of 79. Tamil Nadu seemed to be making their mark in the game, before Shivam Dubey and Shubham Ranjane provided a reprieve to their side.

Both the batsmen shared 71 runs for the sixth-wicket – to steer Mumbai from 79 to 150. Just 34 runs shy of the total, Mumbai lost the wicket of Dubey, who scored 28 off 56 balls.

Ranjane, along with Dhawal Kulkarni, shared 17 runs for the seventh-wicket before Tamil Nadu made it an interesting contest while wrapping up two quick wickets.

Just five runs short of the target, Mumbai still seemed to be far away from the win but Ranajan kept his nerve and ensured a win for his side.

Ravichandran Ashwin was the most successful bowler for Tamil Nadu, who scalped three wickets for 35 runs in 10 overs.

Earlier in the day, a Murali Vijay sans Tamil Nadu did not have a great start as they lost their first wicket in the first over in a form of Kaushik Gandhi.

Wickets continued to tumble at regular intervals and in the end, they somehow managed to post a total of 183.

Ashwin was the highest run-scorer for Tamil Nadu as he played an innings of 41, which comprised of a solitary boundary.

Dhawal Kulkarni was the most successful bowler for his side as he bowled a spell of 4-2-4-3. Ranjane and Dhrumil Matkar took two wickets each.
