Virat Kohli is an aggressive captain and that holds true for former India skipper Sourav Ganguly as well, who imbibed aggression in Indian cricket team. It is also the case that both the cricketers were extremely passionate for the game and often showed it through their aggression.

Former India fast bowler Irfan Pathan who always lauds Ganguly as captain said that Kohli is very similar to him. Pathan was of the opinion that even Kohli goes to distance to back his players, adding that the has seen how the current India captain goes on to back Rishabh Pant in the press conferences.

“He is very similar to Sourav Ganguly as well. A guy who backs his youngsters really, really well. Virat Kohli has that aura about him, that he goes out of his way to back the youngsters. We have seen that with Rishabh Pant, we have seen the press conferences, he goes and says, ‘No, we need to back a guy like Rishabh Pant purely on his potential’,” Pathan told Star Sports’ Cricket Connected show.

“We have seen so many Under-19 India players who vanish after playing the U-19 World Cup. They don’t end up fulfilling their potential at the international level which they might have. Also, we have so many cricketers playing the U-19 World Cup and then going on to play for India. In between, there is a bridge which is first-class cricket.

Ganguly will always be celebrated for his captaincy skills which overshadowed his batting prowess. The southpaw retired with a brilliant average in Tests and ODIs. He scored 7212 runs in the longest format at an average of 42.17 and also notched up 11363 runs in the ODIs at an average of 41.02.

Ganguly scored over 100 half-centuries in his successful international career.
